Buying a Mobility Scooter Online: Delivery, Returns and Warranty
Disclosure: this guide is published by Bayside Mobility, an online retailer of mobility scooters and related equipment. It explains our policies as published on October 8, 2026, with links to the current wording. Delivery services, return costs and warranty-labor arrangements depend on the product, so we confirm them in writing for each order before you pay.
Short answer: after you order online, your order is checked for availability and payment, processed on business days, and shipped by parcel or freight carrier. Delivery dates are estimates, not guarantees. When it arrives, inspect it before you sign. Damage goes to the retailer right away. Product defects are handled under the manufacturer’s warranty, usually with the retailer helping you file the claim. Returns are possible only within set conditions and need authorization first. The details that matter most (delivery level, assembly, return fees, warranty labor) vary by product, so get them in writing before you pay.

What happens after you order: the timeline at a glance
-
You place the order and receive an order confirmation. At Bayside, this confirms we received your request; it doesn’t yet guarantee acceptance (Terms of Service, §5).
-
Availability and payment are checked. If a product becomes unavailable after you order, we may offer to wait for restock, switch to an alternative, or cancel for a refund (Terms, §4).
-
The order is processed on regular business days, Monday through Friday (Shipping Policy).
-
It ships, and you receive a shipping confirmation email with the carrier, tracking number and estimated delivery date.
-
It’s delivered by parcel carrier or, for larger equipment, by freight carrier with a scheduled appointment.
-
You inspect the delivery before signing and report any damage immediately.
-
Your 30-day return-request window runs from the day you receive the item (Refund Policy), subject to the conditions below.
-
Warranty coverage comes from the manufacturer for the period and parts its warranty lists.

Does an order confirmation mean your scooter is reserved?
Not necessarily. Online stock displays can lag behind a manufacturer’s warehouse, and our Terms of Service say we may decline, cancel or limit an order because of availability, pricing errors, payment issues or supplier limits. If we cancel after payment, the refund goes to your original payment method.
Before you rely on a delivery date, ask us to confirm that your exact model, color and battery option are in stock. You also have federal protections. Under the FTC’s Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule, a seller must have a reasonable basis for any shipping time it states, or, if it states none, for shipping within 30 days. If shipping will be late, the seller must ask for your consent to the delay and tell you that you can cancel for a full, prompt refund instead.

Delivery estimates versus guaranteed delivery dates
Bayside’s shipping policy gives an estimated delivery time of 7–10 business days for most eligible areas after the order has been processed and shipped, and states that delivery times are estimates and are not guaranteed. Holidays, high order volume, supplier delays and freight scheduling can all add time.
Some Shoprider listings give a manufacturer target: for confirmed in-stock orders received by 12 noon Pacific Time, Shoprider targets shipment within 24 hours and arrival within 7 business days after shipment. That’s a target, not a guaranteed date.
Two limits to know before you order:
-
Delivery area: orders currently ship within the contiguous United States only. Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, military addresses and international addresses aren’t served.
-
Address changes: contact us before the order ships. Once it’s in transit, the address usually can’t be changed, and for freight it may not be possible after carrier pickup.
If you need the scooter by a specific date (a trip, a discharge from hospital, a move), say so before ordering and ask whether that date can be met.

Parcel or freight delivery: what’s the difference?
Smaller items travel by standard parcel carrier and arrive like any other package. Larger mobility equipment may ship by freight carrier instead. Our shipping policy names power wheelchairs, adjustable beds, vehicle lifts, walk-in tubs and larger mobility equipment as items that commonly require freight.
Freight delivery may require:
-
a scheduled delivery appointment,
-
a valid phone number for the carrier to call,
-
someone available to receive the shipment,
-
inspection before signing, and
-
extra time for carrier scheduling.
Our policy doesn’t say which method applies to each scooter. Ask us which carrier type will deliver your model and how much the boxed shipment weighs, so you can plan who will be home and how it will be moved.

Curbside, doorstep, inside delivery and assembly: what’s actually included
Delivery services differ by product. Here is what our product pages and policies currently state, and what to confirm for your order.
|
Service |
What Bayside’s pages currently say |
What to confirm in writing |
|---|---|---|
|
Lift-gate and doorstep delivery |
Some Shoprider listings (for example the Shoprider Excursion) say lift-gate and doorstep accessorial service are included when required under Bayside’s Shoprider program |
Whether your order qualifies, and what “doorstep” means at your address (steps, gates, apartments) |
|
White Glove Service |
Included with the Shoprider Flagship price under Bayside’s current Shoprider agreement; on other Shoprider models, available by quote and not included unless confirmed for the order |
Exactly which tasks are included (room of choice, unpacking, setup, packaging removal) and the appointment process |
|
Inside delivery, unpacking, assembly, setup |
Not described in our shipping, refund or terms pages |
Whether any of these are offered for your model, and the price |
|
Curbside delivery |
Not described |
Where the carrier will leave the shipment if no other service applies |
Our shipping policy also says: don’t assemble, install or use a damaged product before contacting us. This is about damage or defects, which you should report right away whatever stage you’re at. Separately, our return policy requires change-of-mind returns to be unused and unassembled, so assembling or riding the scooter may affect whether you can return it if you simply decide it isn’t right for you.
Delivery day: inspect before you sign
Our shipping policy asks you to inspect freight shipments carefully before accepting delivery and to inspect the shipment before signing the delivery receipt. If anything is damaged, contact us immediately with your order number, photos of the packaging and product, a description of the problem, and any notes on the delivery receipt. Our policy doesn’t set a deadline in days, but it warns that late reports may limit our ability to file a carrier or supplier claim, so report the same day.
Freight carriers give similar advice. TForce Freight’s cargo claims guidance, for example, says to write a precise description of any damage on both your copy and the carrier’s copy of the delivery receipt, to report damage discovered after delivery (“concealed damage”) within 5 business days, and to leave the packaging as it was when you found the damage. Other carriers’ terms may differ, so treat your retailer’s instructions and the carrier’s paperwork as the rules that apply to your shipment.
About refusing a delivery: our policy lists refused delivery as a reason a package may be returned to us, and says reshipping fees may apply. If the damage is severe, call us from the delivery if you can, and note the damage on the receipt either way.
Manufacturer warranty versus retailer help
Bayside is a retailer. Our Terms of Service (§8) say that warranties are typically provided by the manufacturer, that warranty approval, repair, replacement or denial is decided by the manufacturer or supplier, and that unless stated otherwise in writing, we don’t create, extend or replace manufacturer warranty coverage. In practice, the retailer is usually your first contact and helps you start the claim; the manufacturer decides it.
Manufacturer warranties differ in ways that affect your costs:
|
FreeRider / Luggie |
Shoprider |
|
|---|---|---|
|
Frame |
36 months for scooters |
5 years; 10 years on E-Line models (Echo+, Explorer, Expedition XL4) |
|
Motor, electronics |
12 months (motor, transaxle, brake, electrical) |
12 months (electronics; motor, transaxle, brake) |
|
Battery |
Sources conflict: FreeRiderUSA’s model specification tables list 2 years (for example the Luggie Standard page), while its warranty document states 12 months for a new Luggie lithium battery. Get the term for your purchase in writing |
Listed as 6 months, but the same page also says the warranty doesn’t cover batteries; ask |
|
Labor, service calls, shipping |
Excluded unless authorized in advance |
Labor, pick-up, delivery and house calls not covered |
|
Requirements to note |
Bought from an authorized reseller; serial number intact; return authorization (RMA) for parts returns |
Bought from an authorized Shoprider provider; registration card returned within 30 days; proof of purchase |
|
Source |
Two practical points:
-
Ask for written confirmation that your purchase qualifies for the manufacturer’s warranty, since both warranties above depend on where the product was bought.
-
Ask who pays for warranty labor and in-home service. Some Bayside Shoprider listings describe one-year warranty labor service coverage for eligible warranty-related labor in the contiguous US. Ask us to confirm in writing whether that applies to your order, because our general Terms say we don’t extend manufacturer coverage unless stated in writing.
Returns: eligibility, deadlines, authorization and fees
|
Topic |
Bayside’s current policy |
|---|---|
|
Deadline |
Request a return within 30 days after receiving the item |
|
Condition |
Same condition as received; unused and unassembled; original packaging, manuals, accessories and components; proof of purchase |
|
Authorization |
Email support@baysidemobility.com with order number, product, reason and photos if requested. Items sent back without authorization may not be accepted |
|
Not returnable |
Gift cards; clearance or final-sale items; products installed, altered or damaged after delivery; custom-configured or special-order products; used or modified equipment. Some products need manufacturer approval |
|
Fees |
The Refund Policy doesn’t list fees. Our Terms of Service (§7) say customers may be responsible for return shipping, freight charges, restocking fees or other fees for non-defective returns |
|
Refund timing |
Processed to your original payment method within 10 business days of approval; your bank may take longer |
|
Exchanges |
Usually handled by returning the eligible item and placing a new order |
What this means for you: keep all packaging until you’re sure you’re keeping the scooter. Most scooters need some setup before you can try them, and our policy says change-of-mind returns must be unused and unassembled, so before ordering ask us in writing how setup and a test ride affect return eligibility for your model, and what the exact return shipping and any restocking charge would be. Freight returns of large scooters can be expensive. None of this applies to delivery damage or a defect: report those immediately, whether or not the scooter has been unpacked or assembled.
Our pages don’t publish a customer cancellation policy, so ask what happens if you cancel before shipment and after shipment.
Paying, insurance and dispute rights
-
Credit card protections: the FTC explains that you can dispute charges for items not delivered as agreed. Your written dispute must reach the card issuer within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent.
-
Medicare: Medicare.gov says Part B covers power wheelchairs and scooters only when medically necessary, after a face-to-face exam and a written prescription from a treating provider. Medicare pays only when both your doctor and your supplier are enrolled in Medicare, and Medicare.gov advises checking that suppliers accept assignment, since a non-participating supplier may charge more. Other coverage requirements may apply, and eligibility is not guaranteed. Our policies don’t state that we bill Medicare, so if you’re hoping for coverage, speak with your provider and plan before ordering online. Whether a scooter is suitable for your needs is a question for your clinician.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to buy a mobility scooter online?
It can be, if you know who handles each step. Before paying, confirm stock, delivery method and level, return costs and warranty terms in writing; pay by credit card for dispute rights; and inspect the delivery before signing.
How long does delivery take?
At Bayside, the estimate is 7–10 business days for most eligible areas after the order is processed and shipped. It’s an estimate, not a guarantee. Freight appointments can add time.
Will the scooter arrive assembled?
It depends on the model and service. Our policies don’t describe unpacking or assembly. The Shoprider Flagship includes White Glove Service under our current agreement, and White Glove is available by quote on other Shoprider models. Ask what’s included for your model.
What should I do if my scooter arrives damaged?
Note the damage on the delivery receipt, photograph everything, keep the packaging, don’t assemble or use the product, and contact Bayside immediately with your order number and photos.
Can I return a mobility scooter I bought online?
At Bayside, you can request a return within 30 days of receiving the item if it’s unused, unassembled and complete with original packaging, and you must get return authorization first. Some items aren’t returnable, and our Terms say return shipping, freight and restocking fees may apply to non-defective returns.
Who handles warranty repairs, the store or the manufacturer?
The manufacturer decides warranty claims under its own terms. The retailer usually helps you start the claim. Check what the manufacturer excludes: FreeRider and Shoprider both exclude labor and service calls unless otherwise arranged.
Does Medicare cover a scooter bought online?
Medicare Part B may cover a scooter when it’s medically necessary, prescribed by a treating provider after a face-to-face exam, and supplied by a Medicare-enrolled supplier; your doctor must also be enrolled, and it’s worth checking whether the supplier participates and accepts assignment. Other coverage requirements may apply, and eligibility is not guaranteed. Our policies don’t state that we bill Medicare, so check with your provider and plan before ordering.
